Bar Mitzvah in Israel

Ok Here We Go! The Dwecks are going to ISRAEL in 2014! Bobby Dweck's getting Bar Mitzvahed! Is that a verb?

Here we will chronicle the goings-on of the family before, during, and after the trip. I want all the family to join in posting pictures and words and video up here. Contact me at jrdweck@gmail.com - send me pictures and I will also work out details to link Instagram here and have some of you become authors of the blog, so everyone can post.

Just some notes on traveling to Israel.

Airport

  •  Passports - Make sure all of your passports are valid 6 months prior to your return date. You should photocopy all of your documents and keep the copies in a separate bag apart from the actual passports. Just in case.
  • Luggage - El Al is very strict about the weight of each suitcase. The maximum weight per bag is 50 lbs. They will refuse your luggage, so be careful. You are allowed one suitcase per person, and one carry on.
  • Time - make sure to be at the airport 3 hours before departure. Don't bring extra food, there is food in the airport and in Israel. Chuckies bags are not allowed on international flights.
Weather
  • Note that the weather is very temperamental. It might be 40 or 75. Or it might snow again. We just don't know. Bring your winter coats, bring sweatshirts and layers.  Bring hats. Be fully equipped with bathing suits, water shoes, shorts, and t-shirts as well as sweat shirts, sweaters, long pants, jeans.

Other warnings and stuff
  • Bring your own charger. They do have American 110v outlets there ( as every country should), but if you have an international plug/charger, bring it.  There will be NO charger sharing.
  • Your phone could cost you $$$$$$ in data charges if you're not careful. Buy a SIM card from America - like from Travelcell. They have Unlimited Data SIM cards. Or use WiFi in the hotel. Or leave your phone at home (yeah, right). Either way, don't do nothing and get stuck with huge bills.
  • Bring your own headphones. Find them now. I will not buy them in the airport.
  • Bald guys, bring a hat. Bring two; one knit hat for the cold, one baseball cap for the hot. And be proud.
  • Call the credit card companies and let them know you are traveling to Israel. Otherwise they might not authorize your cards!
  • We will be WALKING a lot. Please bring sneakers or shoes you can walk in. For the little kids, jogging strollers are the best. Columbia Jogging Stroller. This thing is good - for $100 bucks it will make carting around those kids soooo much easier. Available at Target. Pay with cash - not your debit card.

Stay tuned......
